WISE, Va. — Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced more than $6.8 million in Growth and Opportunity for Virginia grant awards for eight projects across the state, according to a recent release.
One of those projects includes a $97,500 nuclear microreactor feasibility study, led by Wise County. The study will look at the potential of using microreactors as an “alternative power source to support future business growth," the release states.
A consultant will evaluate the existing infrastructure, identify additional investment needs and conduct a detailed economic analysis. According to the release, the study will provide Region 1 with data on job creation, capital expenditures and long-term revenue potential.
The study includes Dickenson, Lee, Scott and Wise counties, as well as the City of Norton. It will “assess the viability of microreactors as part of its energy and economic development strategy.”
