Julia’s soul-stirring voice will make you swoon this Valentine’s day at Good Times Coal-Fired Pizza and Pub. Let things heat up with some hot pies fresh from a coal-fired oven and some music from the hummingbird of Virginia, Julia Still. Her powerful vocals and uncanny way with words has garnered five-star reviews across southwest Virginia and northeast Tennessee.
About me:
I’ve sang since I could talk.
I remember going to church on the top of that mountain. Coming out after service you could feel God smiling on you and the sun grinning from the opposite mountaintop. The trees would be making melodies with the wind like it was God’s breath. So, I started singing with them.
At three years old I gave my first public performance for my church. I stood up and sang “Away in a Manger” after the pastor asked if anyone had anything they’d like to share. A string of other young’uns got up after me and sang their own Christmas or worship songs.
I’ve always loved encouraging other artists. We all have a desire to make something beautiful with what we’ve been given.
Being raised in the rural mountains of southwestern Virginia made singing feel like a fairy story. No one from my town that I knew of had ever “made it”. My parents were humble people, and there wasn’t concert money. So live music felt about as foreign to me as the dark side of the moon (cue my brain automatically playing “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” from Disney’s “Mulan”).
When I was sixteen I watched a movie called “Coal Miner’s Daughter”. My dad was watching it on some cable network we managed to get on our satellite, so I sat down with him to see it.
I was amazed that a rural mountain woman–not unlike me–could take her humble roots and grow out to reach the world. That’s the night I fell in love with Country Music. And, that’s the same night I finally began to dream.
Today I’m playing live shows, releasing music, and finding my steps along this crazy road. I hope you’ll come with me on this journey and cheer me on as I keep singing with the wind.
