Charges pending after probe into Gate City school bomb threat--Bristol Herald Courier

Charges are pending after officials responding to a threat, found no evidence of a bomb at the Gate City Middle School.

On May 1, school resource officers were made aware of a bomb threat that had been made at the Gate City Middle School, according to a statement from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.

An evacuation of the school complex was conducted and students were able to return to class after a sweep of the school had been conducted by law enforcement specialty units.

An investigation into the threat began immediately by Scott County Sheriff’s Office investigators, suspects were quickly developed and witnesses were interviewed. At this time, the investigation has concluded and charges are pending, according to the statement. It was determined, as a result of the investigation and sweep, the threat was a hoax.

Sheriff Jeff Edds expressed his appreciation to the Virginia State Police, Gate City Police Department, Gate City Middle School staff, Kingsport Police Department, Greene County Tennessee Sheriff’s Office, Johnson City Police Department and Washington County Tennessee Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation and the quick return to the school and normal activities.
