Ron Swanson on the GOP’s Obsession with Social Issues and Ignoring the Working Class
“I believe in hard work, personal responsibility, and government staying out of my business. But I also believe in calling out stupidity when I see it.”
The GOP I once respected is broken. Not because of some grand conspiracy, but because it’s more obsessed with social issues than actually helping working people.
While Tariff Inflation is making Walmart prices jump, while prescription drug costs are skyrocketing, and while Southwest Virginia is still waiting on economic development that never comes, what are the GOP elites focused on? Social issues that don’t put food on the table, don’t pay the bills, and sure as hell don’t improve anyone’s life.
The Red-Vested Governor won’t lift a finger to bring new jobs to Southwest Virginia, but he’ll happily hand out car tax rebates to the elites of Northern Virginia instead of giving First Responders the pay raises they deserve. And then there’s Congressman Morgan ‘Woodbooger’ Griffith, who apparently thinks his job is to fight culture wars instead of submitting a single bill that actually helps his district.
Here’s where I stand. My loyalty to the GOP is gone until they prove they actually care about the working class. I don’t want to hear about social issues. I want to hear about pay raises, better jobs, and healthcare that doesn’t involve Ballad Health holding people hostage. If a candidate can’t focus on those things, they don’t get my vote.
So moving forward, I’m voting for the person who wants to help working people, not just rile them up. And if that means shaking things up, so be it. I don’t care about party loyalty—I care about results.
Now, I’m going to go enjoy some bacon and whiskey and think about how much better off we’d all be if common sense wasn’t so rare these days.
